In an effort to fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, a Dubai free zone company announces they’re investing a whopping $1M production facility. The facility will aim to mass-produce surgical face masks, alcohols, and medical kits.
The said medical supplies will be given primarily to the doctors, nurses, and professionals who are front liners. Then, the extra stocks will be given to China and others who are in need.
The Official Statement
According to IBC Group's spokesperson, they confirmed a partnership with their affiliate Regal Global Trading. The latter will be the one managing the production while IBC Group will invest the $1M funds. The facility is expected to generate 300,000-600,000 face masks daily. The stocks will be divided into China, the medical personnel, and the constituents in Dubai and UAE.
Khurram Shroff, IBC's Group chairman, said they're setting up the production facility in UAE. While their primary goal is to produce 300,000 masks, they're committed to double and increase every month forward. Their production goals will depend on the severity of the pandemic as well as the demand for these medical supplies.
The Deadly Pandemic
Last March 11, the World Health Organization raised COVID-19's infection to a global pandemic level. More than 422,829 people across the globe were already infected by the disease; while more than 18, 907 deaths were recorded as of March 25, 2020. The top three countries with the most number of infected people are China, Italy, and the USA. Meanwhile, the UAE already recorded 248 cases with 2 deaths.
Free Zone Company Fight Against the Virus
Aside from IBC Group, another free zone company, Abu Dhabi's Group 42 also stepped up to extend their help against COVID-19. Abu Dhabi's Group 42 (G42) integrates artificial intelligence (AI) as well as cloud computing technology to produce medical supplies.
G42 also launched the Population Genome Program. The program aims to provide rapid genotyping for faster sharing of COVID-19 data between hospitals and researchers. They hoped their efforts would help curb the spread of coronavirus.
The Government Orders
Aside from the private free zone company efforts, the UAE government and Dubai council also issued pledges and orders to protect the country from coronavirus. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pledged an astounding $10 million to support WHO in fighting COVID-19. The Kingdom also imposed travel bans and restrictions to and from over nine countries.
The travel ban is imposed on its citizens and residents in KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, and UAE. Meanwhile, the Crown Prince of Dubai also launched an astounding AED 1.5 Billion stimulus package to protect Dubai's businesses and citizens from the economic repercussions from COVID-19.
A Message of Hope and Unity
While IBC Group's initiative is great, Shroff stated their efforts alone are not enough to fully defeat the virus. That's why he's encouraging all free zone company that has the capacity to help to join their cause. He urges everyone to set aside their competition and profit motive in the meantime; collaborate with each other.
Shroff says the UAE region needs everyone's effort to protect its citizens from the deadly virus. Not only that, but every free zone company in Dubai will also play a significant role in addressing the global demands of protective gears and medical kits.
